How to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Your Eyes

by

There's no apocalypse and it’s not even Halloween, but you look like a legitimate zombie. The dark circles under your eyes are telling your secrets, and you need a way to fix them fast.

Tired, dark eyes can make you look sick and strung out; it’s not a good look and it's definitely not sexy. If you’re currently tired, grab a cup of coffee before you start reading. Trust us, need to learn how to deal with these circles before someone stages an intervention.

Do I Have Dark Circles?

Generally speaking, it’s easy to spot dark circles under the eyes. Although the skin under your eyes is incredibly thin (approximately ten times thinner than the skin on the rest of your face), it should still be within a few shades of your natural skin tone.

The skin under your eyes will always have a slightly different hue, especially as you approach the inner corners of your eyes. However, there’s a difference between slightly different colors and dark circles.

Dark circles usually form immediately under the eye and can extend all the way to the bottom of your eye socket. The entire area of skin will look blueish-purple, or may even look red if your eyes are particularly irritated.

Dark circles can also be accompanied by bags under the eyes. Bags under the eyes is a condition where fluid collects in the pockets of skin under the eyes causing visible swelling or “bags” under the eyes. Eyes look puffy, swollen, and watery.

You may also experience eye irritation when you have dark circles. Your eyes may water, feel dry, itchy, or fatigued.

Sound familiar? If so, you’ve probably got dark circles, but luckily, you can learn how to prevent them.

What’s Causing Dark Circles

There are so many reasons you might be experiencing dark circles under your eyes it can be impossible to find the exact source. In fact, it could even be hereditary. If one or both of your parents has chronic dark circles under their eyes, chances are you might also have them.

Some of the main dark circle offenders?

  • Lack of sleep. You need 7-9 hours a night, but your mileage may vary depending on your own activity level and particular needs.

When you don’t get enough sleep, the blood vessels under your eyes dilate allowing more blood to pool under your eyes. Because the skin under your eyes is so thin, it’s really easy to see the fluid build-up.
  • Sleeping too much. Oversleeping can also cause dark circles under your eyes to form just as bad as lack of sleep. When you sleep too much, you give your body the perfect opportunity for fluid to collect in the pockets of skin under your eyes. Too much sleep can leave you with dark circles and puffiness.
  • Allergies. If pollen season has you begging for mercy, your dark circles could be due to allergies. “Allergic shiners” is a term for dark circles under the eyes caused by an allergic response.

When your body has an allergic response (like it could with pollen) the blood vessels surrounding your eyes become swollen, along with your sinus cavities. This swelling can cause the blood to pool under your eyes making it look like you have dark circles.
  • Smoking. You already know it’s a bad habit, and smoking is pretty awful for your skin. The skin around your eyes suffers, especially, because it is naturally thinner than the remainder of the skin on your face.

Smoking can cause nicotine withdrawals during the night that affect your sleep and cause you to have dark circles.
  • Not using eye cream. Your eye skin is extremely delicate, and as you get older, it’s the first place on your face to show your age. Crow’s feet, bags and puffiness, and dark circles are some of the hallmarks of older eyes.

If you’re 20 and up, you should be using an eye cream. It’s both preventive and restorative, which means it can help slow the signs of aging around your eyes and restore already aging skin.

As you get older, the collagen production in your skin (the stuff that keeps it plump and youthful) begins to decline. This decrease in collagen allows the skin under your eyes to sag, creating pockets where blood and other fluid can hide out and create dark circles.

How to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Your Eyes

You can hide out behind sunglasses, but it’s not a popular look for the office or school. If you’re serious about getting rid of dark circles, you’ll have to get serious about your skin care, including the products you use around your eyes.

At Disco, we develop products that are formulated for men’s skin. Our products keep your skin within its perfect pH balance range and are also designed to help men fight their most concerning skin care needs, like dark circles under the eyes.

We exist to provide products to you that work in a skin care industry that is largely devoted to women’s skin. We use ingredients that work synergistically with men’s skin to bring about noticeable results.

Here’s what we recommend for under-eye circles, and for helping keep your skin bright and healthy.

For Eyes

You need an eye cream that works, and we’ve got it. Disco’s eye repairing stick is your go-to for combatting:

  • Dark circles
  • Puffy, bags under the eyes
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dry, dehydrated eye-area skin

While some eye treatments can rob your skin of moisture, making your eyes look older than you are, our eye stick contains hydrating ingredients like phytic acid and eucalyptus oil. It’s also an expert at getting rid of dark circles under the eyes. Here’s why.

  • Pycnogenol. This plant-based extract comes from French maritime pine trees and helps keep the thin skin under your eyes brighter, reducing the appearance of dark circles. It’s also a super antioxidant, which helps neutralize oxidative stress that can cause fine lines and wrinkles to form.
  • Niacinamide. This form of vitamin B3 works hard to fight the signs of aging, especially around your eyes. It’s also a great emollient, which is able to help smooth, correct, and keep skin hydrated and soft.
  • Caffeine. Caffeine is a great product for using topically on your skin. It helps tighten the skin under your eyes, making it more difficult for blood and fluid to collect there. Caffeine also has soothing properties, making it a great option if your eye skin is particularly irritated.

You can use our eye stick daily or as needed. You can even keep it in your pocket and apply it throughout the day if your eyes need a little pick-me-up.

For Skin

You can treat your eyes and your skin to a major level up by adopting a consistent skin care routine. Disco’s Regimen Set has everything you need (including our repairing eye stick) to keep your skin and your eyes looking as sexy as you feel.

  • Charcoal Face Cleansing Stick. Our face cleanser comes in easy-to-use stick form. Swipe it on and lather up. Natural charcoal pulls dirt and oil from pores, while hydrating coconut oil makes sure your skin feels soft and smooth when you’re done washing.
  • Exfoliating Face Scrub. Our scrub is unlike any other. It contains papaya extract, which is a natural exfoliant that’s powerful enough to slough away dead skin cells, but gentle enough to use on the most sensitive skin. It also contains hydrating and soothing aloe to keep your skin cool and calm.
  • Purifying Face Mask. You’ve been wearing a mask for over a year, so why not get on board with one that can deep clean your pores and help alleviate mask-related blemishes? Our face mask contains bentonite clay and charcoal to help lift impurities from your pores and keep your skin super clean and clear.

Our mask also includes willow bark extract to help with puffiness.
  • Hydrating Face Moisturizer. Made to be used all over your face our hydrating face moisturizer keeps your skin deeply hydrated without clogging your pores or causing irritation. Packed with vitamin E to prevent free radical damage and vitamin C to brighten the overall complexion, this moisturizer can help improve your skin tone and texture at the same time.

Macadamia oil helps fight wrinkles and fine lines before they start, leaving skin deeply hydrated, nourished, and youthful.
